Paul Ayres violin 2014

The violin is a copy of a fine Venetian violin made by Peter Guarneri in 1735.

The wood used for the belly came from the remaining stock of Paul Voigt, which we purchased when his son Eric finally retired in 2002. Eric was himself almost eighty by this time!
All of the pieces were dated at the time the Voigt's had initially purchased them, and this particular piece was dated 1963. It has been slowly seasoning ever since.
The maple used for the back, ribs and scroll is all highly figured Bosnian maple.
Paul has used an oil varnish, and created a superb antiqued finish.

This instrument has now been sold.
